Since at least 1950, artificial intelligence technology has introduced many innovative wonders into popular culture, the business world, and the general public. The capacity for ‘machine learning’ and semantic technology has exceeded the imaginable, and we are now at a potential crossroad where A.I. could help us progress as a species, and to realize the unfulfilled and undiscovered potential of the human mind and human experience in all its aspects.
Knowledge management systems, coupled with A.I. assistants that can mimic the neural pathways of the human brain and make their own decisions based on the processed data, have also increased in capacity and performance, to the point of achieving a level of interconnectedness and sharing of information that propagates worldwide and helps businesses flourish.
These advancements have given the business world an unprecedented boost regarding higher levels of visibility, reduction of bureaucracy, higher processing and computational speed. Not to mention, promoting shared collaborative effort across all company levels, faster decision making and business-oriented solutions that benefit their customers and clients and which can anticipate fluctuations in customer preference/satisfaction.
Understanding the Relationship Between Artificial Intelligence and the Human Mind
The relationship between A.I. and human culture and history is another field of interest that has been delved into with great insight by anthropologists, sociologists, and many others who are studying the impact of A.I. on the human collective.
The principal goal of these studies is to try and determine how A.I. will impact the acceleration of technological progress and how it will be integrated into our culture. To understand how we as a species will respond to A.I. and what risks may be involved—in other words, whether they will bring unprecedented prosperity to mankind on one extreme, or extreme dangers to our survival on the other.
We have seen how the advancements in ‘smart’ technology (such as smart cars and smart homes)—for better or worse—have provided us with many advantages while at the same time expanding, rather aggressively, into our personal space.
A.I. In Social Media
The presence of A.I. solutions in social media helps companies discover useful insights into how a service or a product can help companies to anticipate and predict future trends and manage crisis situations more easily. Likewise, the use of personal A.I. online assistants (including Virtual technology), with their cognitive ability to extrapolate, filter and process data to deliver customized recommendations, has revolutionized customer experience, engagement, and satisfaction.
Therefore, as far as social media goes, the influence of A.I. lies in the social media analytics process. Understanding the human mind and how a consumer mentality works have both always been a prerogative for companies who need to comprehend the needs of their customers, clients, partners and affiliates.
The A.I. technology applied to this use provides exactly this opportunity by promoting a higher level of collaboration within an organization. With other previously undiscovered valuable external partners, it will disseminate vital knowledge of business strategies and practices that can help small companies survive the onslaught of bigger players, and by encouraging a cross-disciplinary approach that brings together numerous entities from the most diverse areas of industry and human activity (thus promoting the propagation of knowledge).
For example, A.I. technology is being used by almost every participant within the medical, agriculture, transportation, health, and hospitality professions and much more. Restaurants, banks, and travel agencies use robotic secretaries, servers and engineers to interact with customers.
In fact, the use of A.I. has created a boom in employment opportunities for a great variety of careers Some of these career opportunities include electricians, database, and graphics designers, digital architects, lawyers, business experts, accountants, IT/Cloud technology engineers, cyber-security experts, and even consultants from every sector that has implemented and deployed A.I. systems.
Those customers from all the various industries have become an integral part of the A.I. technology sector, and will, in turn, draw in the participation of even more parties—including the academia—to help in disseminating the benefits of A.I. across the board and worldwide.
What Awaits Us
In the end, whether mankind will be taken over completely by A.I., or adapt to and integrate with it to extrapolate only the best elements that will contribute to human progress, depend entirely on us.
The old saying goes, ‘everything in moderation,’ will be key. No excesses can be allowed; there will always be the need for perfect harmony. And while A.I. is being used as a cyber weapon for hackers or terrorists, the fact remains that (just like everything else), it will continue to be employed by criminal factions around the world as innovative advancements and new technologies are introduced.
This is simply normal, and it is a curse of progress because there will continue to be bad elements in society and big powerful moguls who will use A.I. (or anything else for that matter) to the detriment of humanity in general.
This is why there will regulations put in place by the appropriate organizations to ensure the security of the public and prevent the use of A.I. for illegal purposes.
