Snapchat has quickly become one of the most popular social media apps around. Now with over 150 million daily active users, Snapchat is undeniably a success. With all of Snapchat’s success, it does have its cons. One negative against the app is that it isn’t the easiest to use. It has a ton of features that are quite hard to both find and utilize.
These are the features that most Snapchat users don’t know about.
1. Save data with “Travel Mode”
Snapchat has caused many among us to experience the unfortunate data overage charge. The basis of Snapchat is videos which use up far more data than the traditional photo. With ‘Travel Mode’ on, rather than automatically downloading each snap as you scroll, you can select the snaps you want to download thus saving data.
2. Use Two Filters
Ever find yourself in a repetitive back and forth trying to choose between different Snapchat filters? Now you no longer have to choose. Well, at least when it comes to two filters. To apply two filters at once, you have to hold the screen with one finger on the first filter and swipe left or right with another finger to find your second filter.
3. “Pin” Emojis To Items In Videos
Adding stationary emojis and stickers to your Snapchat video is not the only thing you can do in Snapchat. You can also “pin” or attach emojis and stickers to an object. This allows the emoji to move as the object it is pinned to moves in the video. All you have to do is record your video, then select the emoji you want to pin. Finally, hold that emoji in place on the object you want to pin it to.
4. Customize Your Friend Emojis
Snapchat allows you to create custom Friend Emojis so you can add another way to prove to your BFF, or significant other, that they hold an important place in your life. To customize your Friend Emoji, go to ‘Manage’ in your Snapchat Settings. Tap ‘Manage’ under the ‘Additional Services section, then click Friend Emojis. There, you can change the Friend Emoji to whatever emoji you want.
5. Make Your Own Geofilter
A custom Geofilter has been used for things like birthdays, marriage proposals, and special events. This is one that most wonder how to use, but little know how. Using Snapchat’s online Geofilter creation tool, you can create your own Geofilter for neighborhoods, cities, or events.
6. Exceed Snapchat’s Text Limit
Snapchat allows you to use up to 33 characters in your snaps, but there is a way around this limit. To exceed the limit, you have to type out your message in another application in your phone; such as Notes or Google docs, and copy that message. Go back into Snapchat and paste the message.
7. Make Voice And Video Calls
Unbeknownst to many who regularly use Snapchat, the company added the option to make voice and video calls in early 2016. Being that most of us are on Snapchat now, you can easily reach those who you don’t have as a contact. This functionality has to be turned on in the settings of Snapchat. The only downfall of this feature is there is no 2-step verification once initiated, the voice or video call starts automatically.
