Back in 2015, Ford made a big announcement that it would revive the GT model. In January of the following year, the company showcased the first production version of the hotly anticipated vehicle during the Detroit Auto Show, and by the end of the month, the car debut in completion at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The race didn’t end in Ford’s favor, but it didn’t take long for the company to fix several issues, and it rose to the top of the podium at the 12 Hours of Sebring race. The Ford GT traveled to Le Mans in June of 2016 where it won another race, and from there, folks could see the making of a great automobile and the absolute return of the GT series.
Welcome the 2017 Ford GT
It didn’t take long for the company to give it the official name, 2017 Ford GT. As it stands right now, Ford is delivering vehicles to eager customers, and at the same time, some journalists have been given the opportunity to test-drive this beast of a driving machine.
If what most reports have to say are true, the 2017 Ford GT from our perspective, is more of a racecar than a sports car. That’s not a coincidence since Ford created the 2017 GT with the necessary legal requirements to sell a race car to folks who’d drive it on public streets.
We like the scissors door
One of the signature design features of almost every McLaren is the scissors door. For those who are wondering what that is, it’s a type of car door that opens upwards instead of outwards. It’s pretty impressive, and we’re happy to see it as part of the 2017 Ford GT model.
As for the roof, well, fans of previous GT models will find happiness here seeing as the hallmark low roof has returned. The roof’s height is 43.7 inches, a little higher than the Ford GT40, which came with a 40-inch high roof.
Now, we understand Ford intended to build a super Mustang to go up against the Ferrari 458, but things changed, and as such the 2017 GT model came to life. It’s also one of the reasons the car is so fast – with its twin-turbo V6 engine.
We also like the feature where the driver can switch from sports mode to track mode. This simply means the 2017 GT drops lower onto its race springs. When in this mode, the vehicle will no longer have that cushion of protection when driving over bumps.
What about the interior?
The 2017 Ford GT doesn’t have a lavish and flashy interior similar to a Ferrari, but if that’s what you want, the company can help with that. Then again, if you’re planning to grab one of these pretty little things, then the interior is surely not one your top five reasons for wanting to own the car.
Automobile enthusiasts who are interested in purchasing the 2017 Ford GT model should bear in mind it costs a whopping $450,000 to own. Furthermore, the company is only interested in selling the car to people who will use it to its full potential and share their enjoyment with the rest of the world.
Additionally, Ford plans on manufacturing only 250 models of the 2017 Ford GT per year, so depending on the popularity it could be hard to find.
