Utilizing TurtleBot for New Age Robotics

A team of sophomores from Rudgers University revealed a social robot called Robota during a TechCrunch Hackathon which took place in New York.

The robot’s function is assisting teachers in special education programs. Robota utilizes prescient and sentiment evaluation to decide if students in a class seem to be distressed. The Robot then approaches and asks the subject of interest if anything is the matter.

When the student confides in the robot, it (Robota) converts their spoken complaints to text, and does analysis of the sentence structure to comprehend if the issues may require immediate attention of an adult.

The robot also texts the guardians, parents or teachers with summaries of the complaints of the students. As such, robots are increasingly being placed in use for mental health programs.

Some of the predecessors for Robota include Paro which was a robotic seal programmed to assist patients suffering from dementia. There was also NAO which was an android that was made to assist children suffering from autism.

The team which came up with Robota has a notion that robots themselves are non-judgmental figures or non-threatening and children could be more willing to communicate their issues.

The founders of the Robota technology, Aditya Shastri, Abdullah Shareef and Rithika Korrapolu claimed that the research implies children who have particular needs, including communication and movement, experience challenges in relating with their teachers and other adults within the institution they learn.

At times, they may also be sensitive to being judged or anxious about the disappointment of authority figures. The team utilized TurtleBot as well as software courtesy of Clarif. ai and IBM so they could make their prototype.

Robota is a first generation type of machine with endless applications in different departments. Developments in artificial intelligence have been geared to assist within the health, defense and information technology sectors because of its potential to make processes more effective.

This is line with automation and removal of the human element to not only make things much faster and integrated but to increase the level of objectivity.

Robota is one of the first machines created that is actually able to pick up on human emotions and respond in the best manner possible which is to alert the guardians or adults in charge of any issue.
