The Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus, has revealed more about its upcoming device’s camera features claiming the firm has partnered with DxO Labs so as to give a better camera experience for users. In a reality where social media users exceed the population of entire continents, a smartphone’s camera is one of the prominent selling point.
During the first years when smartphones hit the industry, the camera was perceived as an afterthought for a number of smartphones. A number of manufacturers though invested a lot so as to make theirs better and more attractive, though others focused on outward appearance and performance of the devices. At the present, it seems they have become one of the main focuses for the majority with each phone maker working to make theirs as top end as the best within the market.
DxO is known for creating a respected benchmark system for cameras, DxOMark and it is not the first time it has tried to partner with players in the smartphone industry. In 2015, it released the DxO One which is attachable phone peripheral which added a number of post processing improvements to the user’s photos. The HTU U11 for example, boasts a record 90 DxO score according to its rating spectrum which has led many to believe it is the best camera phone in the world.
Further Leaks on the Upcoming OnePlus Flagship
The upcoming flagship device from OnePlus has had a number of leaks into the market in recent months and it was also spotted in the An Tu Tu benchmark system which showed some of its hardware features including a megapixel main camera which comes along with a 16 megapixel front sensor.
The device is expected to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system hosting an octa core CPU and Adreno 540 graphics chip. There should also be full HD 1920 * 1080display panel and 64 GB internal memory, complementing the 6GB of RAM. No release dates have been released thus far but the OnePlus 5 is expected to debut sometime this summer.
Potential Gains for OnePlus
The company has been improving slowly over the years concerning its camera features on every new device brought into the market. However, they have been trying to improve things and it seems finding the right partner to take it to the next level is the logical thing to do. The market on camera specs has always been competitive and more so this summer, considering Samsung’s S8 or the HTC U11.
The Chinese phone maker has its works cut out but there should be a lot to gain from this partnership with the camera specs benchmark maker. Diego Heinz, OnePlus social media manager claimed the opportunity of working alongside DxO will uplift the quality of the OnePlus 5’s images to an unprecedented level. DxO were equally pleased with the arrangement.
According to Etienne Knauer, SVP Sales and Marketing at the company, OnePlus has always been a leading innovator within the smartphone scene and DxO is more than happy to partner and support their mobile photography initiative. However, even though the ratings of DxO are highly respected, it should be noted that not everyone in the same field takes their endorsement as law.
