For $200 million dollars, Sprint acquired a 33 percent stake Tidal’s shares along with other artists who remain part owners of the streaming service. Sprint’s CEO, Marcelo Claure consequently joined their board of directors making the service available for subscribers of their service.

Sprint subscribers now gain access to over 500 exclusive playlists from artists, celebrities, and athletes.Tidal now hosts 48.5 million tracks. Sprint subscribers get free access to this exclusive streaming services for up to 6 months which thereafter they are converted to a subscription that costs $9.99 per month.

Jay Z has made some brilliant business moves and consequently is now a very valuable asset to the music industry as well as other artists and his various business partners. Interestingly enough judging from the clips currently available, courtesy of Sprint, it appears he is tapping into currently popular styles commonly seen in underground hip-hop. From what we’ve seen so far his new album appears to be a bit on the dark side consistent with messages common to his early work detailing his tumultuous upbringing.
